HARRIERS lost out in front of the TNT Sports cameras as they went down 2-0 to FC Halifax Town at Aggborough.
After the first sight of goal for the day saw Halifax’s Harker angle an effort wide of the target, Charlie Weston almost had Harriers ahead on 25 minutes as he drove the ball towards the bottom corner from the edge of the area. It would’ve found its intended spot, too, but for a vital intervention from a Halifax boot.
Ten minutes later, Amari Morgan-Smith almost got on the end of a long throw from Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain, but couldn’t quite divert the ball home at the far post.
That was the total of the first half’s goal mouth action, but within six minutes of the restart, Weston was close once again to a breakthrough, this time driving across the face of goal with an effort that had the goalkeeper well beaten, only for the ball to crash wide.
After the hour and after Dibble had made a smart save to keep out one effort, Halifax beat the offside trap by dropping a ball in for Wright to chase. He beat Dibble in the chase and was able to guide the ball up and over him and into the net.
Boosted by the confidence of going ahead, The Shaymen held on to their lead, though there was one big chance for Harriers to pull level on 87 minutes when the ball dropped to Penny in the area from another Oxlade-Chamberlain throw. The defender turned well on it but could only strike a rising effort over the target.
With that lay-off, Halifax grabbed their second at the other end with a breakaway goal. Wright advanced a little too easily with the ball through the final third and into the area to shoot, a deflection taking it past Dibble and into the Harriers net.
