A look to Saturday’s meeting with Alfreton…

HARRIERS host Alfreton Town in National League North at Aggborough on Saturday.
Both sides come into the clash on the back of an FA Cup success, Harriers defeating Leek with some added time drama, and Alfreton getting past Spalding after a replay and penalties.
While Harriers look to maintain a solid home start to the campaign, Alfreton come to DY10 with a sizable unbeaten record to protect.
Including the two cup outings, a positive result on Saturday would mark a tenth game without defeat for Billy Heath’s charges, whose only set-back all season came at Southport on the opening day.
As a result, they’re handily placed in the league table and are expected to be in and around the play-offs this term.
Phil Brown knows to expect a tough day at the office against an Alfreton side who robust and packed with experience and quality.
He said: “Saturday is going to be all about how do we prepare properly for Alfreton in town who are going to be stubborn, and come with a game plan that’s going to try and upset people.
“It’s going to try and quieten the crowd, these are all key factors, and if we can get over those key factors in an advantageous way, then we’ve got a good chance of winning the game.”
Brown was asked about the defending Harriers may be asked to do to withstand what may be a direct approach from the visitors, but the Aggborough chief had no issues at all with that or any other style.
“I don’t mind that,” he added. “I don’t mind any Coach that wants to come here and throw a ball into our box, you’ve got to have centre halves to deal with that and a goalkeeper that’s active, or proactive when the ball comes into his penalty box.
“It was interesting watching Man City against Milan [on Wednesday]; the first 20 minutes was counter-attacking football, Man City were on the front foot and Milan came to get a point.
“They then realised they had an opportunity at counter attacking football. Then, the ball goes out for a throw in in the final 15, 20 yards and Milan set up for a long throw in. I’m thinking ‘what’s wrong with that?’ There’s nothing wrong with it.”
Harriers will go into the game with two new signings at their disposal.
Striker Harry Ibbitson joined from Bradford City earlier this week, while defender Kam Kandola has joined having departed Wolves.
They’ll be a boost to ranks who are still missing Paul Downing (calf), and Ben Beresford (hamstring), who are all still weeks away.
George Cooper (pectoral) will realistically not feature for the Reds again, his unfortunate and serious injury requiring surgery that will keep him out beyond the end of his loan from Mansfield Town – all at the club obviously wish George all the best in his recovery.
Ashley Hemmings will be back in the fold after suspension, however, while Brown hopes Alex Penny may be available for the tie.
Kick off at Aggborough on Saturday is at 3:00pm.
