HARRIERS secured another ideal away win with a 1-0 success at high-flying Curzon Ashton on Wednesday night.
Ashley Hemmings netted the only goal of the game early on, his header proving enough to seal a deserved and ground-out victory at Tameside Stadium.
The hosts and visitors had already pulled an effort each off target by the time Hemmings put his team ahead. Joe Foulkes had set Reece Devine free to whip in a ball that found the well risen No.10 who planted home his six goal of the campaign.
Midfielder David Davis went within inches of making it 2-0 not long after. When a headed clearance failed to find distance, he showed great control to take it down and volley, the ball flying just over the bar.
The home side had a brace of opportunities in the first half. One came with 27 on the clock when Jimmy Spencer struck off target, with Isaac Sinclair curling wide when just seconds remained before the interval.
Eight minutes after the restart Harriers thought they’d got a reasonable shout for a penalty when Amari Morgan-Smith was brought to the deck when preparing to shoot. Appeals were waved away, and Foulkes immediately kept focus on the job in hand by firing as the ball ran loose to him, his effort angling off target.
Three minutes later, the experienced Spencer warmed the chest of Dibble with a fierce piledriver that the goalkeeper stayed right behind, Hemmings seeing his flash across the target edge just inches shy of the far post with 74 gone.
Harriers had done a great job at repelling almost anything that came into their box in the second half but, on 77 minutes, one delivery did make to on to the head of Adam Barton, the woodwork then coming to the rescue as his dipping effort came back off the bar.
There was in truth just one other key chance for Harriers to withstand. Buckley-Ricketts had what was no more than a half sight of goal when pushed out to the far post when receiving the ball. He struck it firmly and high, but it was always crashing past the upright.
Harriers stayed firm and dug in with Dibble, largely, untroubled on the night to secure an important three points for Phil Brown’s charges.
