Recap: Hereford 0-3 Harriers

Derby day delight…

GOALS from Zak Brown, Tope Obadeyi and Amari Morgan-Smith propelled Phil Brown’s side to a 3-0 win at local rivals Hereford on Boxing Day.

A superb strike by Brown gave Reds an early advantage, before two second half goals secured the points, first Obadeyi lobbed the Hereford glovesman, before Morgan-Smith’s curling effort sealed the victory.

Harriers boss Phil Brown named an unchanged starting eleven following Saturday’s 2-0 win against Southport, and it took just ten minutes for Reds to take the lead on derby day.

After some early pressure which saw an Ashley Hemmings strike deflected out onto the side netting, and Skipper Amari Morgan-Smith denied by Tom Donaghy from close quarters, it was midfielder Zak Brown who struck on ten minutes.

After driving forward towards the retreating Hereford defence, Brown unleashed a sublime strike from 30 yards out, which crossed the line after crashing off the underside of the crossbar, 1-0 Harriers.

In the 16th minute there were chances for both sides. Ryley Reynolds broke down the right flank before Tope Obadeyi saw a close range effort smothered by Donaghy. Moments later at the other end a dangerous cross into the box, looking for the arrival of Jason Cowley at the far-post, had to be put out of play by Christian Dibble.

Towards the closing stages of the opening 45 the Harriers defence soaked up some pressure from the hosts, and in the first minute of additional time, a Cowley cross was met by Tate Campbell who saw his effort ricochet off the crossbar.

In an encounter where the second goal was always going to be crucial, Harriers were quick out of the blocks after the interval. A ball lofted down field was chased by Obadeyi who kept his cool to play the ball up and over the advancing Tom Donaghy, 2-0.

The woodwork initially went on to deny Harriers further success, firstly Kam Kandola seeing a headed effort rebound off the crossbar, before Hemmings had a strike come back off the post. Not to be denied though, it was Morgan-Smith who struck on 87 minutes, his shot curled beyond Donaghy, 3-0 Harriers.
