HARRIERS displayed courage and resolve in bucket loads to leave Scarborough with a 3-2 win on Tuesday night.

The Reds far from had it all their own way in Yorkshire against a fired up and battling Seadogs side but, having lost a lead on two occasions, the boys dug in deep to bag a sublime winning goal on the counterattack to have the final say on the matter.

Scarborough had already hit the post from close range in a frantic opening quarter of an hour before Harriers took the lead; Ryley Reynolds snatching the ball for his team and embarking on a lung busting-run before crossing to Maz Kouhyar who showed tremendous composure to control the ball and finish from around 18 yards. The goalkeeper got a touch to the effort but could only nudge it on to the post before the ball landed in the net.

The lead was short lived. In a sequence typical of a fairly hairy first 45 minutes, Scarborough essentially went straight up the other end and scored, a ball lifted into the area and nodded in by Luca Coalville much to the delight of the home support.

Harriers re-established their advantage on 27 minutes and Kouhyar this time turned provider, handily dealing with the attentions of the Scarborough defence before lifting to the far post where a trio of bodies in navy were waiting, Amari Morgan-Smith providing the decisive touch to send the ball home.

Scarborough then took that Harriers goal and raised them another equaliser on 38 minutes, Harry Green’s deceptive, swerving free kick drilled with venom past Dibble from the edge of the area.

This was a bizarre game in as much as there were the five goals shared in total but almost no other chances of note besides, though the early stages of the second half afforded a sight of goal each for Harriers’ Ashley Hemmings and Scarborough’s Dom Tear, though neither seriously troubled the goalkeeper.

With 68 on the clock, Harriers were ahead again and this time they stayed in front. It owed much to the contribution of all three players involved; Kouhyar’s incisive pass to free Morgan-Smith, his charging run and dangerous cross cutting past the scrambling defenders and into the path of Hemmings who showed composure to slam home what proved to be the winner.

It was fitting of the night that there was still more drama as substitutions and bookings started to flow, home boss Jonathan Greening then seeing a red card for a touchline altercation of which the referee took a dim view.

There were seven minutes of added time to negotiate, too, but Harriers saw them out comfortably enough, Jim Kellermann even slamming a well-taken effort off the bar in an attempt to put a final gloss on what was, in any case, a superb team performance.
