Sunday: Farsley v Harriers

A look towards Sunday’s game….

HARRIERS face National League North action on Sunday this weekend when they journey to face Farsley Celtic.

Phil Brown takes his men into battle for what will be the 11th meeting between the two sides, some 18 years or so since the first matches took place in the National League.

Former player and boss Russ Penn netted in both of those games, before it became a fairly regular National League North fixture  from 2019 onward.

On our last trip to Farsley, Krystian Pearce headed in the only goal of a 1-0 win – a vital success that helped springboard that side on to a run that ultimately ended in promotion.

This season, however, has been far tougher for Farsley. Going into the action for the rest of the division on Saturday, they sit in 23rd place and in a very tightly-packed relegation zone – and as one of three teams of the four on 26 points.

Having enjoyed a few early successes this season, Farsley have found wins harder to come by in recent weeks, and haven’t tasted National League North victory since a sensational 3-1 win at Curzon Ashton on Boxing Day.

Goals have been harder to find in their last few games but, perhaps crucially, Sunday’s tie is the first of four successive home games for the side now managed by David Stockdale.

Harriers, meanwhile, will hope to build on an important 2-0 home win over King’s Lynn in midweek after a frustrating night in their last away game at Marine.

The Reds will be without longer-term injured players Alex Penny, Ben Beresford and Luke Summerfield, with Brown confirming that Jim Kellermann has been added to that list following his recent set-back that will, sadly, rule him out for the remainder of the season.

Joe Foulkes is continuing his recovery having been rated at six to eight weeks a fortnight or so ago, while David Davis has been ‘coming through rigorous tests’ according to the boss, and may be able to undertake running work next week.

Christian Dibble has been managing a hip injury from Tuesday’s game but it’s hoped he’ll be available for the weekend.

Phil Brown gave an extended pre-match interview ahead of the game, discussing the trip, the midweek win, injuries and more. View it below.

Kick off at Farsley Celtic on Sunday is at 3:00pm. Please remember that the game is to be played at Buxton’s Tarmac Silverlands Stadium and not Farsley Celtic.

Away travel is available from Harriers up to and including Friday afternoon.
