Saturday: Harriers v Boro

A look ahead to Saturday’s game…

HARRIERS meet Scarborough Athletic at Aggborough in National League North on Saturday.

Saturday’s tie will be just the fourth meeting between Harriers and this iteration of Scarborough. Athletic were formed in 2007 as a Phoenix club following the demise of Scarborough FC, and first faced the Reds back in 2022.

A helter-skelter 4-2 win for Boro toppled Russ Penn’s side back then before winning 1-0 at Aggborough in February 2023, while this season’s return fixture saw Phil Brown’s charges come out on top after a similarly bonkers trip to Scarborough, running out 3-2 victors.

Prior to that, Harriers and the ‘old’ Boro met on 14 occasions in non-league and cup competitions. An Alliance Premier win in 1986 was probably the pick of the bunch for the men from Aggborough, who won 5-3 thanks to, among others, two goals from Paul Davies.

In the present day, Jonathan Greening’s men have struggled for lengthy consistent runs in National League North, but travel to Aggborough having won two of their last three. They were downed at Curzon Ashton last time out, but previously saw off Warrington Town and Leamington, scoring five goals and keeping two clean sheets in the process.

Ahead of Saturday, Phil Brown has confirmed that midfielder David Davis has enjoyed a full week’s training and could be available for selection on Saturday, while long-term injury absentee Luke Summerfield’s recovery continues. The boss outlined there was ‘great news’ this week on Summerfield’s prospects of playing again between now and the end of the season.

Elsewhere this week, Harriers played a training ground friendly against Wolves and secured a 1-1 draw with Charlie Lutz on target for the Reds.
