HARRIERS and Leamington battled it out to a 1-1 draw in National League North on Tuesday night.

Top scorer Ashley Hemmings netted for the 22nd time this season as he superbly took the ball down and slammed it into the net to give his side an advantage at the break.

Harriers had openings for a second but were pegged back when George Ward nodded home in a crowd of bodies to make it 1-1.

Hemmings must actually have thought he’d opened the scoring with just 14 on the clock when Devine’s delivery was knocked into his path by a defender, his low drive was well saved by goalkeeper Callum Hawkins.

Hemmings then turned provider a minute later and chipped into the area where Maz Kouhyar and blasted at goal, Hawkins doing even better to tip the ball one-handed over the bar.

Kouhyar struck wide on 25 minutes and, just after the half-hour, a superb Dave Worrall delivery helped unlock Leamington, as did a superb chest, turn and finish from Hemmings as he fired past Hawkins who, this time, could do little about it.

Harriers should arguably have gone into the break 2-0 up but, in the half’s final seconds, a supremely confident Hemmings struck at Hawkins at a tight angle when perhaps a better option awaited in a couple of red shirts inside the area.

Kouhyar hit over early in the second half before a Kyle Morrison header was held. Six after the hour, though, Leamington were level as a dangerous cross was met by the unmarked head of Owen Farmer who applied a calm, headed finish into the net.

In the 75th minute Kouhyar showed great control inside the area before lifting the ball towards the target, Hawkins beaten but his bar not so as it thumped off the urpight.

Leamington might well have nicked it in the final few minutes, Jack Edwards left to rue a late chance he lifted over the target from relatively close range.
