HARRIERS had to settle for a draw after a 1-1 stalemate in the season’s first away game at Worksop Town.
It was the dream start for Harriers, who struck just three minutes in. A short corner routine found its way to David Davis on the edge of the area, and the midfielder swept home a composed finish to put his side ahead.
Holding on to a lead was always going to be crucial on a day of few chances but, midway through the half, Worksop responded when Luke Waterfall volleyed in from close range after a free-kick was worked into the box.
It might’ve been 2-1 Worksop four minutes later as the Tigers broke, but Tunnicliffe’s covering tackle kept them at bay.
Six before the break, Harriers looked to regain the initiative, Amari Morgan-Smith linking up neatly with Jack Clarke before shooting just over with a strong chance, while Taylor between the sticks got down well to hold Jason Adigun’s attempted curler.
The game went into the interval level, and Harriers came out looking to press after the restart, Adigun was involved again on the edge of the area, setting up Joe Foulkes whose effort was off target.
Zanda Siziba and Jack Clarke had made way for Ryley Reynolds and Luke Spokes after the interval. Spokes almost made an immediate impact, his free-kick dipping narrowly over the bar, while Christian Dibble was called into action to save well from a header by home substitute Jordan Burrow.
Kurt Willoughby was introduced for Adigun just past the hour as Harriers sought a winner, and they came close when Emeka Obi surged out of defence to unleash a powerful drive. Tommy Taylor could only parry the strike and Morgan-Smith latched onto the rebound, but the goalkeeper recovered to save again.
Despite that pressure, neither side could find a decisive goal in the closing stages, and Harriers came away with a hard-earned point on the road.
