HARRIERS made it back-to-back National League North wins with a hard-fought 1-0 home win over Spennymoor Town.
Ryley Reynolds’ third goal of the season in the second half had Harriers deservedly in front on home soil, while the whole group defended determinedly to secure a second successive clean sheet.
Harriers had the far greater share of chances in the first half. Reynolds had the first sight of goal when he chested the ball down and fired over, before Tobi Sho-Silva teed up Reynolds for a blocked shot and Amari Morgan-Smith had an effort blocked.
Harriers grew into the half, Owen Evans pulling a cross back for Sho-Silva to drill narrowly wide before Joe Foulkes’ well-hit volley was comfortably held. The Reds continued to press as half time approached, Sho-Silva forcing another smart save and Reece Hall going close from a tight angle.
The second period started in a similar fashion, with Reece Hall Hall feeding Reynolds for an early chance that flew wide.
Three minutes later, Dan Mooney’s dipping free kick was clawed away by goalkeeper Bobby Jones who extended himself with a smart save as the pressure began to mount.
That persistence paid off on 64 minutes when Harriers struck the decisive blow. Picking up a ball on the edge of the area, Foulkes neatly laid off to Reynolds, who curled a composed finish into the corner to make it 1-0.
Spennymoor responded with a couple of openings of their own. Their best chance of the day came with 11 minutes left to play: Rob Ramshaw raced clear of the Harriers back line but, taking aim, was denied by a fine Christian Dibble save.
Ben Pollock and Corey McKeown both had late sights of goal – the latter nodding over from six yards – but the clean sheet was deserved, and secured after six minutes of added time.
