Kurt relishing Reds momentum

Striker speaks after Saturday’s goal….

KURT Willoughby was delighted to net in the game against Corby Town and is thriving on the current momentum within the Harriers squad.

The forward came off the bench to add the third goal in a professional FA Trophy performance; one he felt reflected control after a cagey start.

“I think the first 20-30 minutes or so were a bit cagey and it took us a bit to settle the ball down and play,” he said.

“But I think from that point, I think we looked good, we looked in control, and we scored goals at the right time.

“It was a good win.”

His finish late on was a composed one and came after what he admitted had been a personally challenging period in front of goal.

“I’ve been a bit frustrated to be honest,” he said. “I think I’ve been getting chances of late and been getting in good areas, but it’s just not been coming off, which happens.

“But you have to try and stay positive and be ready for the next chance. And luckily today, I got a good opportunity and took it, so hopefully they come more frequently now.”

A big part of his confidence now comes from the wider picture. The group’s recent form has been strong in the wake of the 5-1 defeat to Radcliffe, and he feels the shift has been clear.

“We’ve lost one in the past seven or something like that,” the former Chester man added. “I think that’s great form, if we can keep that up throughout the season, we’re there or thereabouts.

“There’s a lot of positives to take… I think things have really turned and we’re tough to beat, hopefully we score more goals and we should be alright.”

The squad’s motivation also includes doing well for Dan Mooney, whose long-term injury has hit the dressing room hard – not least Willoughby.

He went on to say: “Yeah, he’s one of my close friends, I’m really gutted for him. He’s a good lad and he wants to do well but the only thing we can do now is try and win and do it for him.”
