HARRIERS bagged a 2-0 win against Scarborough Athletic after a dominant performance in Bridlington.

Two more goals for David Davis took his tally to the season for six on an afternoon when Harriers controlled things from the off on a tricky surface and with a strong, swirling wind influencing play throughout.

The hosts showed early intent when Lewis Maloney tried his luck from a free kick on 18 minutes, lifting the ball over the wall but straight into the waiting gloves of Christian Dibble.

Harriers, though, never truly looked like conceding all afternoon and responded positively, Joe Foulkes curling an effort off corner directly towards goal on 23 minutes, Ryan Whitley doing well to claim calmly on his line.

The breakthrough arrived a minute later. A well delivered free kick into the area was nodded on and not fully dealt with by the Scarborough defence, allowing David Davis to react quickest and force the ball over the line to give Harriers a deserved lead.

The visitors continued to look dangerous going forward and should have been 2-0 up through Ashley Hemmings driving through the middle on 30 minutes and holding off challenges before seeing his effort blocked inside the area.

Harriers duly doubled their advantage three minutes before the interval with another moment of quality. Reece Devine did brilliantly to reach the byline and pull the ball back into a dangerous area, where Davis struck goalwards. A deflection took it beyond Whitley and into the net, the midfielder completing his brace and underlining Harriers’ superiority.

Thanks to the industry of George Walker, it might well have been three at the break. He chased a lost cause and nipped between Will Thornton and Whitley, finishing from a tight angle. The effort, however, found only the side netting.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Harriers organised and disciplined without the ball and always carrying a threat on the break. Hemmings tested Whitley on 47 minutes with an inventive outside-of-the-boot effort from the edge of the area, the goalkeeper producing a strong parry to keep it out.

Scarborough’s only real opening came on 53 minutes when Harry Green met a low cross, his first-time effort rolling narrowly wide of the far post.

Harriers remained composed and continued to create opportunities of their own. On 67 minutes, Emeka Obi produced a superb first touch to bring down a deep cross into the area before driving a shot across goal, the ball drifting just wide of the far post.

Walker was next to threaten on 75 minutes, racing forward on the counter after good work from Hemmings and forcing Whitley into a save with a firm strike from inside the area.

With the game moving into its closing stages, Harriers remained sharp on the break. On 87 minutes, new man Danny Waldron powered forward and picked out Davis inside the box, the midfielder sliding in but narrowly unable to make contact.
