HARRIERS slipped to a 3-1 defeat at Spennymoor Town on Tuesday night after a difficult ten-minute spell at the start of the second half turned the game on its head.

Adam Murray’s side had deservedly led at the break thanks to Seb Thompson’s well-taken opener, but three Moors goals between the 56th and 66th minutes saw the hosts come from behind to take the points.

Harriers started brightly and Charlie Cooper twice looked lively in the early stages, first advancing before lifting a decent effort over on three minutes and then cutting inside from a throw-in three minutes later to send another strike swerving just over.

Ryley Reynolds then came inside and tried his luck on 13 minutes, with Ben Pollock blocking the effort high over the bar for a corner, before the hosts threatened through Mackenzie Heaney three minutes later as his fierce strike flew behind the goal.

Kieren Donnelly went close on 18 minutes after carrying the ball into the area on the counter, only for Brad James to block smartly with his leg, while Spennymoor’s pressure at the other end on 25 minutes ended with Glen Taylor firing over.

Harriers’ bright spell got the reward it deserved on 31 minutes. Owen Evans and Reynolds both showed superb close control in the area and the ball broke kindly to Thompson at the far post, with the defender keeping his composure to finish coolly for 1-0.

Cam Salkeld tested Rhys Lovett with a strong effort on 42 minutes that was punched up and over, but Harriers continued to carry a threat. Reynolds dazzled past his man before firing over on 44 minutes, and in added time Donnelly persisted brilliantly in the box before seeing his shot blocked by James.

The hosts found their way back into it on 56 minutes when Corey McKeown was given room to advance and pick his spot, tucking a finish into the bottom corner.

Four minutes later Spennymoor struck again as Harriers misplaced a pass and the hosts countered quickly, with Olly Dyson sweeping a firm finish past Lovett and into the corner.

Thompson almost responded straight away when he drove a free-kick on target on 63 minutes, but James did well to hold on.

Instead, the next goal went the way of the home side on 66 minutes. Taylor was fouled as the ball came into the area and he stepped up to power the resulting penalty home.

Dyson remained a threat and forced Lovett into another save on 78 minutes when he surged into the box and shot powerfully, with the Harriers goalkeeper parrying away.

Murray turned to his bench in search of a route back into the contest, but Harriers were unable to trouble James again as the evening ended in defeat.
