HARRIERS again had to settle for an Aggborough point when looking destined for three after an injury time equaliser for Buxton.
The two sides ended up playing out a 2-2 draw in DY10 after the Bucks hit deep into added time to deny the Reds all three points – Harriers dealt a hammer blow in stoppage time for the second home game in succession.
It was the home side who struck first, Amari Morgan-Smith opening his account for the season midway through the first half. The captain spun neatly inside the area, losing his footing as he struck, but still managing to roll the ball past the wrong-footed Paul Cooper to make it 1-0.
The lively forward almost doubled his tally soon after when he found Reece Devine with a smart pass, Devine bringing the ball down well and firing at goal only for Cooper to produce a superb fingertip stop to send the ball over the bar.
Adam Murray’s men carried their lead into the interval, having also seen Luke Spokes craft a fine chance for Kurt Willoughby only for Kieran Burton to cut out the danger at the last moment.
Buxton levelled matters just after the restart. Callum Ebanks advanced well with the ball before squaring for Luke Brennan on the break, who calmly slid the ball beyond Joe Wright.
Just two minutes later, Harriers struck back through Willoughby, the striker opening his account in red and white by driving a finish back across goal from a corner to restore the advantage and revel in the celebrations that followed.
The game remained in the balance throughout the closing stages with neither side wresting control from the other. Brennan, again a threat, drew Wright into a strong stop at close range having advanced across the by-line, before heading wide from a Ryan McLean cross in the dying minutes.
But the final sting came in stoppage time – the sixth of four added. Awarded a dangerously placed free kick, Buxton lifted the ball into the six-yard area and Max Bardell rose highest to nod home from close range, earning the visitors a share of the spoils.
While far from the desired result, the draw keeps Harriers in reasonable enough league form ahead of a two-week break before the next National League North action.
