HARRIERS fell to defeat in their final pre-season friendly as Stockport came from a goal down to win 2-1 at Edegely Park.
A fairly quiet half was more or less only disturbed by the two goals it saw. After the Harriers goalkeeper held a shot from Stockport’s Bennett, it was the visitors who took the lead when Morgan-Smith took down Prosser’s cross and finished past Ben Hinchliffe.
Aside from a Rooney effort wide for Stockport from a free kick, that was more or less it for the goalmouth action until the Hatters levelled – Lowe bringing down Kitching in the area, Rooney powering home from 12 yards.
Five after the restart, James Jennings bent a free-kick wide of the goal, Hemmings up at the other end close to a goal as he narrowly missed out on meeting a threatening cross from Sterling.
Past the hour, Sterling himself directed a free-kick off target and, with ten to go, an incredible scramble saw the Harriers goal defended well; a Rooney kick well saved and cleared – initially via County sub Bell and the bar, before being hooked away.
It was Bell who had County in front two minutes later, though, with a neat finish to tuck away Minihan’s cross, with the Harriers stopper pulling out a good save to deny Rooney the hosts’ third almost immediately.
