RUSS Penn says Harriers will pay “big respect” to Kettering when they visit Aggborough in National League North on Tuesday.
The Poppies have endured a tough start to life in this National League North season, but showed their qualities in a 3-3 draw at Hereford on Saturday.
Under the management of Paul Cox, Kettering are steered by one of non-league’s most accomplished Managers.
Cox was at the helm when his Mansfield side inflicted a number of seasons worth of pain on Harriers when it came to the National League title and play-offs in years gone by.
Penn knows plenty of his opposite number tonight having come up against his sides frequently in his own career.
He knows that Kettering will improve under his stewardship, and that they’ll be taken lightly at the peril of his team tonight.
He said: “Full respect to Paul Cox, I’ve kind of grown up with him in the last 15 years, [managing] at certain clubs – Eastwood, Mansfield, Barrow, Guiseley.
“He always does a good job and he knows the level inside out, so we will pay them and him big respect.
“He goes and starts projects and, no doubt, the Chairman will back him and he’s signed a lot of players in the last couple of weeks.

“When he gets linked to a Manager’s job, it’s a job he feels he can take somewhere and Kettering is no different.
“They may not have had the start they wanted but they are going to be very competitive in every game they play this season.
“We’ve got to be on it [tonight].”
Harriers were without Alex Penny through illness on Saturday as they downed Curzon Ashton 1-0 at Aggborough.
Penn will check on the defender’s fitness, while hoping to have a fully fit complement besides that.
Kick-off at Aggborough on Tuesday is at 7:45pm.
