Harriers suffered a second defeat of the season with a 2-0 home loss to Kettering at Aggborough.
Having put together a solid run of results in recent weeks, Russ Penn’s men were for once just not at the races against the Poppies, who for their part fully deserved their result.
Penn had changed around the team to welcome Koby Arthur back into the eleven but even with fresh legs, the hosts lacked their usual sparkle going forward, along with the concession of a couple of uncharacteristically poor goals in the second half.
Harriers did have chances on the night but they were few and far between, Hemmings and Richards hitting off target in the first 20 minutes after a good effort from Richens up at the other end.
The best of the chances by far came in quick succesion in the final ten minutes of the first half – Hemmings stabbing over a Richards cross at close range, before turning provider for Austin who nodded wide a decent delivery at the far post.
With confidence building as the game wore on, Kettering took the lead three before the hour mark as Graham slid finish under the body of Luke Simpson from Perry’s cross, though there was almost an instant response as Mike McGrath got back superbly to hook a Sterling shot off the line.
With 19 minutes on the clock Kettering extended their lead; a long ball nodded down by Perry set Kenned away who kept the ball well – albeit unchallenges – before on the angle, driving a finish across goal and into the far corner of Simpson’s net.
Substitute Sterling fired wide with an effort ten minutes before time, but there was to be no denying Kettering their win and Harriers were left to ponder the end of an unbeaten run.
