HARRIERS slipped to a disappointing Boxing Day derby defeat, going down 3-1 to rivals Hereford at Edgar Street.

Things had looked good for Russ Penn’s men after Luke Maxwell had given them an early lead, but the afternoon soon unravelled – by the half-hour mark the scores were level and the Reds were down to ten men after Amari Morgan-Smith was shown his second red card of the season.

The Bulls added two further goals to put the game beyond doubt, with the visitors barely registering as a threat up at the other end once Morgan-Smith had departed the fray.

Maxwell’s strike gave Harriers the advantage after just seven minutes; after Brandon Hall had turned a dangerous Sterling cross around the post, the resultant corner was nodded down to Maxwell who volleyed it into the net, sealing his first goal since returning to Aggborough.

That was ultimately as good as it got for the visitors, however. McQuilkin evened up the scores around ten minutes later with a well-taken finish after Hall’s kick had been nodded down and swept into his path. The dismissal soon followed as Morgan-Smith went in late on Hall with the referee close on hand to issue the red card.

Harriers battled throughout and tried to stem the flow of Hereford’s attacks into the second, but after a foray forward was allowed to continue, Camwell was teed up and fired an unstoppable effort past a helpless Simpson.

Prosser, Arthur and Keziah Martin were all thrown into the mix to try and find a way back into the match, but a strong header from distance at a corner saw the in-form John-Lewis make it 3-1 with less than ten minutes left.
