RUSS Penn is ready for a good crowd, a good opposition and a good game of football when Harriers meet Gloucester City at Aggborough on Saturday.
A relentless run of fixtures continues for the Reds as they host the Tigers in what is already the team’s seventh game of the New Year.
They’ll be looking to captialise on back-to-back wins over York and Kettering in the last seven days, whilst City want to get back to winning ways after defeat at Hereford last time out.
Gloucester have had an up and down term after topping the table for much of last season’s curtailed term, leading to a change in management back in the autumn.
Boss Lee Mansell is now charged with firing them back into shape, and whilst results have been hard to come consistently for the team, they’ve shown plenty of examples of their obvious qualities.
One such occasion came when Harriers travelled to Gloucester for this season’s return time – winning after an emphatic second half, but only following a first period in which the Tigers were very much on top and in front.
Looking ahead to Saturday, Reds chief Russ Penn said: “They have had a change of manager and brought Lee in, who is full of energy and enthusiasm.
“He is trying to make it tick there and has had some good spells, and then a bit of a ropey spell.
“But do you class this as a local derby? Possibly – there will be a good crowd on Saturday and they’ve got good players, so we’ve got to be ready.
“We expect what we expected in the first half of the game a few months ago – they’re high energy and really put us on the back foot, and we struggle.
“But we also know their faults and how we can get at them [to] win the game, so we’re looking forward to it.
“It’s another game we’re trying to win.”
Russ Penn confirmed Harriers were able to welcome Alex Penny back to training this week after he missed Tuesday’s game through illness, but added his situation is being monitored closely.
Lewis Montrose returned to the squad at Kettering after injury while Joe Foulkes also made his first league start for several months.
Sam Austin who missed Tuesday with a knock is hopeful of being available, while Nathan Cameron will again be assessed before kick-off.
There’s also positivity that Keziah Martin’s injury from midweek may not be as serious as first feared after he hobbled off on Tuesday, while Ethan Freemantle (hamstring) remains out.
Kai Lissimore is back with Harriers and available again after being recalled from his loan spell with Tamworth.
Harriers and Gloucester fans are reminded that there is no longer the facility to pay cash at the turnstiles at Aggborough.
You can still pay in person on the day of the game at the Ticket Office (including in cash), but this incurs a £2 increase on our standard match day prices, so your best bet is to purchase in advance of the day if you can – as this will also potentially save you some queueing!
You can do so online via our ticketing platform or, if you need assistance, by calling 01562 823 931 during opening hours.
Again, it is still possible to buy your tickets at the Ticket Office (up to 15 minutes after kick-off), but you can’t pay cash at the turnstile.
Kick-off at Aggborough on Saturday is at 3:00pm
