HARRIERS Manager Phil Brown is running the London Landmarks Half Marathon next month, raising thousands of pounds for Prost8 UK in the process!
The gaffer will lace up his running shoes and undertake the mammoth trek to raise funds for a cause close to his heart.
Brown explained: “As a player, I could do long distance, I wasn’t great at short distances. I was always a long-distance runner.
“Brendan Foster was my chemistry teacher at school, who was an Olympic Gold medallist back in the day.
“I was part of his cross country team and that stayed with me throughout my career.
“Consequently, I’ve been asked of late to do marathons, and half marathons for charity, which is prost8 UK.”
The London Landmarks Half Marathon is a closed road, central London run and is the only half marathon to go through both the City of London and City of Westminster.
The race starts by The Strand, finishes by Downing Street and has fabulous views of London’s most iconic landmarks including Big Ben, St Pauls Cathedral, Nelsons Column, the Gherkin, the Shard, the Tower of London and the London Eye
Discussing his motivations for running this time, Brown added: “It’s very close to my heart. A very good friend of mine, Brian Horton who was my assistant manager at Hull City and is from this neck of the woods.
“Brian has just won his battle with prostate cancer, and I started my training about six or seven weeks ago, right before I got the job at Kidderminster Harriers!
“I need all the support I can get, so if you can’t put your hand in your pocket to give me some money for charity, then come to London the day and support me in the very difficult task of doing the half marathon.”
Amazingly, the boss has already been able to smash his initial £3,000 fundraising target – thanks in no small part to an anonymous donation of £1,000 from a Harriers fan.

Prost8 UK Prost8 launched the ONE in EIGHT campaign to widen access to minimally invasive treatment options for men with prostate cancer.
This means minimal side effects so men continue their lives after treatment without affecting lifestyle outcomes.
