HARRIERS have bagged a new face ahead of the start of the new pre-season campaign with the acquisition of experienced defender Paul Downing.
Downing, 32, is a veteran of around 400 senior appearances, having played the vast majority of his career in the EFL.
Beginning at West Bromwich Albion, he made over 180 starts for Walsall in League 1 between 2012 and 2015, going on to feature for Blackburn Rovers and Portsmouth thereafter.
Having briefly trained with Harriers last summer, he moved into non-league with Hereford, playing more than 30 times in League and Cup action for the Bulls as they pushed towards the play-offs last term.
He’s penned a one-year to become Phil Brown’s first new signing of the summer, subject to FA confirmation.
Downing told our YouTube channel: “It’s a club I’ve followed throughout my career, living locally, and the Club have shown a lot of interest over the summer.
“Coming in a bit for pre-season last year, I know a few of the lads already and I’m just itching to get started.
“For the club, coming down from the division above, we’ll hopefully be looking to be at the top end again but that’s going to take a lot of hard work and everyone on the same page.
“Hopefully I can play my part, I’m really looking forward to it.”
Welcome, Paul!
