Harriers shut out under the lights…

HARRIERS were held to a goalless draw by Marine at Aggborough in National League North action.

It was a frustrating evening in some senses, given Harriers controlled much of the match and created plenty of openings, but the visitors are due their share of the credit for a resolute showing – Christian Dibble also called upon to make a couple of important saves.

The first of those came on nine minutes when, with the first chance of the game, clawing away Robinson’s rising free kick before Marine skipper Mattock rose well in the area to head wide a recycled corner.

Harriers amped up the pressure towards the end of the first half and had four chances to arguably have put the game to bed, all within 11 minutes of the interval.

First, Ashley Hemmings got good contact on a header inside the area but watched it fly across goal and wide, before a fizzing, low drive from Caleb Richards needed a key deflection to turn it aside with goalkeeper Carron arguably beaten.

Hemmings then crossed for Morgan-Smith who powered a firm header over the target before the former then took aim himself once more, moving into space and firing at goal, only for Corran to save well down at his near post.

Harriers weren’t quite as fluid in the second period but went close when Jack Lambert hit the bar on 63 minutes, before Dibble again proved pivotal in showing great concentration and timing to deny sub Sinclair-Smith  who had been played through.

Marine would go close again when Thomas saw a header loop on to the bar and when Griffiths effort landed just over, while Harriers’ final efforts came from Zak Brown who shot, firmly, over at the near post and Lambert who also struck fiercely to force Corran into a save.
