HARRIERS battled and fought their way to an important 1-0 win over Leamington at Aggborough on Saturday.

After King’s Lynn ended the team’s unbeaten run in such ruthless style on Tuesday night, this was a resolute and determined showing from the Reds to ensure they got back on the proverbial bike of picking up National League North points.

The first chance for the home side to try and break a way through the Brakes’ resistance came on 13 minutes and courtesy of the head of Amari Morgan-Smith as he planted an effort over the bar after getting the final touch in a battle with defender Theo Streete.

Harriers then struck off target through Ashley Hemmings and Ryley Reynolds, before Leamington’s Stewart fired into the side netting from close range at the other end.

Neither goalkeeper found themselves regularly tested across the 90 minutes but Leamington’s Callum Hawkins was forced into one good save to keep out a Hemmings effort in first half added time.

Nine minutes after the restart, Kam Kandola headed over the bar from a Hemmings cross with one of the day’s more clear-cut openings, before the first and only goal of the day arrived on the hour mark; Hemmings this time crossing for Joe Foulkes to crash in at the far post with a header that bounced into the net.

Another deep cross aimed towards the far post came off the back of sub Taylor Foran late on as Harriers tried to add a second goal, but it was Leamington who came close to a leveller instead when, on 80 minutes, Henry Landers broke forward with strength, firing a rising effort that looked destined for the top corner before Christian Dibble tipped it over the bar
