HARRIERS signed off pre-season with a competitive showing at Aggborough, edged out 2-1 by National League opponents Solihull Moors despite another sharp goal from Kurt Willoughby.

It took just six minutes for Adam Murray’s side to strike. Dan Mooney burst through midfield with a purposeful run and slipped in Willoughby, who steadied himself and rifled a powerful finish into the top corner.

That gave Harriers a deserved early lead, and they settled into the game well from there. Mooney and Jason Adigun both provided a lively outlet, with Harriers enjoying more of the possession and looking the more progressive side as the half wore on.

The final chance of the first period saw Mooney again find space, driving into the area after a sweeping cross-field pass, but his shot was crowded out before it could trouble the goalkeeper.

After the break, Harriers picked up right where they left off. Christian Dibble was first called into action, calmly collecting the visitors’ first strike of the afternoon in the 47th minute.

Straight from that, Mooney broke forward at the other end and tested the goalkeeper with a low shot that was parried to safety.

Moments later, Adigun weaved between defenders and had a low strike saved, before following up with a second effort that was tipped around the post.

Harriers kept pressing and on 55 minutes, Mooney again linked up with Adigun, teeing him up for another effort that flew just wide.

But Moors levelled midway through the half when Szhem Whyte-Hall reacted quickly in the box to send a smart overhead kick past Dibble.

The visitors grew into the game from there. Rutherford went close with a curling effort that cleared the bar, and Worman rattled the woodwork with a powerful free-kick from range.

Harriers still created chances of their own – Foulkes let fly from 20 yards on 76 minutes and saw his effort rise narrowly over.

But a minute later, Moors found what proved to be the winner. Dibble saved well from Whyte-Hall’s initial effort, only for Dan Creaney to nod in the rebound from close range.

There was time for one last push – George Walker slid a pass across goal for Foulkes to attack, but his low strike was blocked inside the area as Harriers looked for a late equaliser.

Despite the result, it was another strong performance overall, with plenty to take forward into next weekend’s National League North opener.
