ADAM Murray is pleased to have his man after securing the loan signing of Kieren Donnelly.
The striker was on Murray’s hit list earlier this season and, ahead of a crucial game at Buxton this weekend, the Reds chief has managed to get a deal for the former Halesowen man over the line.
Donnelly has eight goals to his name for National League outfit Boston this season and was in impeccable form for Halesowen before that, scoring a goal every other game across 100 appearances for the Yeltz.
“It’s been well documented we’ve not scored enough goals this season,” Murray explained of his new arrival after the loan switch was completed.
“We’ve looked at different solutions and different ways of creating more chances and trying to get more goals into the team.
“We’ve had a little bit of a niggle with Danny [Waldron] as well, so we’ve had to leave him out the last couple of games, but he’s coming on now so that’s good, but we’ve had our eye on Keiren for a while.
“He’s one we tried to get earlier in the season, but they wouldn’t let him out.
“The most pleasing thing for me about this one is that he had three National League options to go to and stay at the level, but he wanted to be part of what we’re doing here.
“He felt the way we play suited his style and he wanted to be part of a promotion push, and I feel we’re really bringing somebody in who knows where the back of the net is.”
Murray added: “We know it’s not that plain sailing, but we think he brings something different to what we’ve got.
“He’s got a lot of energy and he’s very aggressive in what he does.
“When you look at the goals he scores, he’s a very composed finisher so he’ll fit the group, and he gives us another option.”
