Boss keen for ‘right’ additions

More from the Aggborough boss as pre-season rolls on

Paul Wotton

PAUL Wotton says Harriers remain active in the signings market as preparations continue for the club’s return to the National League.

Having already strengthened his squad during the summer, the Harriers boss is pleased with the business completed so far but admits further additions remain a priority before the new campaign gets under way.

The Aggborough chief currently has 19 players at his disposal but is keen to see that figure bolstered further with even more National League experience.

“I would like to bring in a few more, which we’re working towards, but you’ve got to be patient now, just choosing the right ones,” he said.

“We’ve identified who we want and, if we can’t get them, we go down the list, and it’s an ongoing process.

“I’m happy with the business we’ve done so far, really happy. We need a couple more in because we need that bit of quality and that little bit of experience, National League experience, definitely.”

Wotton believes adding depth will be just as important as recruiting quality, with Harriers preparing for the demands of a long National League season.

“But you also need squad depth,” he added. “It’s an unforgiving league and the schedule is unforgiving: Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday, so we need squad depth as well and myself and Dean are working really hard on that.”

A goalkeeping addition looks to be close, with the manager revealing progress is being made.

“We’re very, very close to a goalkeeper, so I’m pretty sure we’ll get that one done.”

While work continues behind the scenes on shaping the squad, Wotton says he has settled quickly into life at Aggborough following his arrival earlier this summer.

“It suits me, the town suits me,” he said. “It’s an honest, hard-working town with an honest, hard-working football team.

“It’s up to me to get a team on the pitch that reflects that, it’s very important that the team reflects the fans, reflects what we are and what we’re about.

“People have made me feel very welcome so, so far, so good.”

Harriers begin their pre-season campaign at Droitwich Spa on Tuesday, 14th July.
