HARRIERS came from behind to comprehensively win in National North at Aggborough against Spennymoor Town.
A torrential downpour beginning minutes before kick off made the early conditions difficult, and Harriers found themselves behind within a minute. A free kick from 20 yards was set up for Glen Taylor to thump for the away side, bending it past the wall and in at the near post.
The men in red and white would quickly look to get back into the game and would level the scoring only eleven minutes later from another set piece. A free kick from 30 yards was hit goalwards by Nathan Lowe, a touch from Moors ‘keeper Max Metcalfe wasn’t enough to turn it around the post.
From this point, it was Harriers with the lion’s share of shots. Joe Foulkes and Lowe with efforts before their team hit the front through a corner delivered by the latter. Floating the ball to the far post where Krystian Pearce lurked, the centre back rose highest and kept his cushioned header under the bar.
There was no let up in attacking pressure from Harriers in the second half. Ashley Hemmings, Yusifu Ceesay, Keziah Martin and Nat Knight-Percival coming close – the latter hitting the post with a header – before the lead was extended.
Ethan Freemantle pounces on a loose ball near the edge of the area, spinning and blasting with his left instinctively into the bottom corner on the hour.
A fourth followed six minutes later through Hemmings on the breakaway. He was played through on the right and cut past Moors’ skipper James Curtis before slamming into the far corner with his left.
Further chances followed in an entertaining performance by Harriers, but the final scored remained at 4-1 to confirm Spennymoor’s first defeat of the 2022/23 season.
