Au revoir! Elton lands new club

We look back at Elton Ngwatala’s Aggborough career as he seals departure to new pastures…

HARRIERS are saying goodbye to their midfield maestro Elton Ngwatala after the Frenchman sealed a move away from Aggborough on Thursday.

After two-and-a-half seasons in Worcestershire, the former PSG youngster departs for Dundee in the Scottish top flight.

Elton, who turns 25 next week, first joined Harriers around Christmas time 2015, making his debut with a few minutes off the bench in the game at Eastleigh before a first start arrived at Forest Green Rovers shortly after.

Harriers were of course relegated that season, but Elton was undoubtedly a bright spark with his creative play and flair – racking up 15 appearances before the term closed out, his first goal for the club coming in the away win at Boreham Wood – a coolly-taken penalty kick.

Elton, like Harriers, began the next season with a bang. As the Reds won 6-1 at Curzon Ashton on the opening day, the Frenchman was on the scoresheet with a typically stylish goal. Key performances and goals followed throughout that season, including the FA Cup run that saw Harriers beaten in the First Round proper at Blackpool, and the side’s surging run into the play-offs after being beaten to the title by AFC Fylde.

Ngwatala had been tipped for a move to the Football League that summer, such was his emerging reputation, but Harriers were handed a boost close to the start of the new campaign as he re-signed on a one-year deal.

2017/18 would prove to be Elton’s busiest at Aggborough – in 46 appearances he notched seven further goals, not least the absolute peach of an effort against Spennymoor Town in the 1-1 draw there. Once again recognised as one of non-league’s finest talents, it was clear his future well and truly lay elsewhere come the end of the campaign as Harriers lost out in the play-offs. In the end, Scottish Premiership side Dundee came calling to lure Elton north of the border.
