Skipper ready for ‘massive test’

Anne Johnson speaks ahead of Sunday’s big FA Cup clash at Aggborough

HARRIERS skipper Anne Johnson says the team can rise to the challenge of Sunday’s huge SSE Women’s FA Cup First Round tie against Wolves at Aggborough.

The Reds have been in good form so far this season, with a solid start to the league campaign coupled with an excellent cup run, too.

They’ve battled through four rounds of the competition to set up this clash against a Wolves side that plays two levels higher.

The vast majority of Harriers players and staff have represented Sunday’s visitors in one capacity or another, making it something of a curious draw when the two were paired together in the First Round.

“It will be a good game and I’m looking forward to it,” admitted Johnson.

“It’ll be a massive, massive test for us but I think we can rise to the challenge.

“I know I said ‘anyone but Wolves’ [for the Cup draw] but that’s football, and it was bound to happen!

“In the changing room everyone was saying we knew we’d get Wolves, as we all have a lot of friends there… it will be a good game and, hopefully, football will be the winner!”

Harriers have already caused one upset in this season’s Cup run.

The last round saw Solihull Moors – who play in the same division as Wolves – come to Aggborough, a fantastic performance seeing James Astle’s men come from behind to secure a shock 2-1 win.

“…if we all gel together we can put in a solid performance…” Anne Johnson

“We’ve shown we can play against a team in Wolves’ league and a National League team,” added Johnson.

“We have definitely got players and individuals who’ve got the ability to play at that level so hopefully, on the day, if we all gel together we can put in a solid performance.

“That’s all you can ask for our team.”

Harriers v Wolves takes place at Aggborough Stadium on Sunday, 11th November at 2pm.

Please come and give the team your support. Admission is just £3 adults and £1 concessions.
