Yates fumes at goal record

Reaction from boss Mark Yates on the defeat at Altrincham…

MARK Yates was acutely aware that Harriers made mistakes symptomatic of their season in the 2-1 defeat to Altrincham on Saturday.

Harriers conceded two poor first half goals at Moss Rose to find themselves starting down the barrel of another costly defeat.

Joe Ironside did pull a goal back on an afternoon that Harriers went on to dominate – but spurned key chances near the day’s end that proved fatal to hopes of taking a share of the spoils.

It’s understandable that Yates couldn’t argue with many aspects of the performance, but equally inevitable that the defensive lapses were at the forefront of his mind.

“…we’ve let in far too many goals, particularly away from home…”  Mark Yates

He said: “I am as happy with the performance as I am disappointed and angry that we conceded two goals like that.

“I think you can look at it throughout the season – we’ve let in far too many goals, particularly away from home, even since I’ve been here.

“We’ve tried to change it around over the last few weeks, but we’ve made too many defensive errors that have cost us.

“We dominated 80% of the game [on Saturday] and were the best team by a country mile but have got nothing out of it – I don’t want to be saying that and the supporters don’t want to be hearing it.

“It’s a disappointed dressing room – not because of our performance but for the fact we gave ourselves a mountain to climb and we shouldn’t really have done that.”
