HARRIERS boss John Pemberton is continuing to work on finding new recruits for his squad – hinting at one signing from a “top” Premier League club.

The Reds kicked off pre-season training at COSE on Thursday.

The club’s 13 contracted players joined some Academy prospects, and some trialists, under the watchful gaze of Pemberton and a 14th in assistant manager Russ Penn, who remains eligible to play if required.

While beginning to run the rule over what’s already in the building, the management team remain hard at work trying to select the potential new arrivals that will complete the squad.

The gaffer confirmed he’s hard at work pursuing one target from a Premier League club, potentially a loan, among plenty of others.

“We’ve got a few lads who’ve come into training with us who we want to have a look at,” he said of day one.

“We’re speaking to a few clubs with regards to their players.

“I’ve spoken to a top Premier League club, and I won’t say who it is, but it’s a club I have a really good connection with, and we’re trying to do something there.

“…[we] have the nucleus of the team, what we need to do is add some quality to it.”

“It’s not as simple as ‘we’re going to have him’ and away we go; a lot of things need to be put in place.

“I can just say we are working really hard to see what we need and recruit accordingly.”

The manager, who will select his first Harriers team for a pre-season friendly against an Aston Villa XI on July 10, added: “We don’t want to put all of our eggs in one basket at the moment.

“We’ve got enough bodies and have the nucleus of the team, what we need to do is add some quality to it which will help us in the season coming.”
