Pembo’s verdict on day one

Manager reflects on the opening day of the season at Aggborough…

Harriers boss, John Pemberton

JOHN Pemberton lamented the concession of a late goal against Leamington on Saturday, but took the positives from the 2-2 draw.

The opening day saw four goals shared at Aggborough, with the Brakes striking an equaliser near the death.

The nature of the goal left the boss frustrated, but he was rightly pleased with much of what he saw.

Harriers came from a goal down to lead 2-1 in a game they were controlling before the leveller, and that’s left the gaffer keen to ensure heads don’t drop.

He reflected: “There are massive positives.

“They’re disappointed they haven’t won the game, and it’s a game we should have won, but we haven’t lost the game, and it’s a game where we’ve come from behind.

“There are a lot of positives with that; they showed a lot of character, we played some good football and we are creating chances.

“The game wasn’t a problem in the second half, but, as it always happens, you know there’s a chance coming, it’s just whether we’re ready for it and whether we can deal with it.

“It shouldn’t have been a problem; it was just a ball over the top and we should have just cleared it out and we never – we were waiting for each other to clear it.

“It gives us a result we shouldn’t have had.”
