Harriers Ladies continued their pre-season campaign with a home friendly against Crusaders LFC on Sunday.
The match taking place at the Ladies’ new home, Lea Castle, saw Harriers host a side from the West Midlands Premier League – one step above the Ladies.
With a number of players unavailable, Harriers were forced to field an outfielder in goal – striker Kirsty Roberts played between the sticks throughout.
The match was fairly even game with both sides displaying some nice passing football on a good surface, but it was the away side who struck first.
Sophie Richards equalised with a super strike from the edge of the box, but Crusaders found the net again just before half time – pouncing on a stray pass and racing towards goal, they put it past Roberts to see them lead at the interval.
Similarly to the first half, the second period saw both sides play some intricate football – Harriers equalising once again as Bailey Raine-Hodge fired into the roof of the net from 25 yards.
With the game looking like it would end level, Crusaders broke away and won a penalty – Roberts guessed the right way, but couldn’t quite keep it out.
The match, which ended in a 3-2 defeat, represented another strong test for Harriers as they approach the beginning of their league season in September.
