Vanarama stat attack!

Vanarama stat attack! Harriers could be on the march – we’re not even Kiddy-ing!

Vanarama National League North

League sponsors Vanarama offer some answers about the actual importance of the start to the season.

It’s been a gruelling slog so far and we’re already at the 11-game stage – but how important are the opening few weeks in the grand scheme of things?

Let’s have a look back at last season and see.

Kidderminster Harriers fans know more than most that the first six weeks don’t mean too much. Last season, they were second in the league and they looked on course for a big year.

But from October onwards, it couldn’t have gotten much worse, something that cost Neil MacFarlane his job just after Christmas.

On the flip side, Harriers fans know that in 2017/18, they were in much the same position as they are now in mid-September. With 14 points on the board, not many would’ve fancied them for a play-off spot but that’s exactly that they got – finishing fourth with 72 points.

Elsewhere in the league last season, nothing was settled at this point.

Stockport County had to mount a serious charge to win their title having found themselves 14 points behind leaders Chorley at this stage.

The Magpies also surrendered their nine-point advantage at the top and got to the National League via the play-offs.

It also looks good for the Harriers if they’re plotting a push for the play-offs. This time last season, Blyth Spartans and Altrincham had some work to do. The Spartans were 18th with ten points, Alty had 12 points – both finished in the top seven.

As they say Harriers fans, it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish!

Sponsors Vanarama have recently launched the Club Reward scheme to help fans back their club’s budget. Every time a fan takes out a brand new van lease with Vanarama or a brand new car lease with Motorama their club will earn £100 and you will receive £30 cashback!
