Ladies defeated on opening day

League opener ends in defeat…

Harriers Ladies began their league season in the West Midlands Regional League South with a tasty derby as they travelled to face local rivals, Stourbridge, on Sunday.

The two sides are tipped amongst the favourites for the league title come the end of the season and, despite this being Harriers’ first match of 19/20, was an important match.

Both sides fielded depleted elevens due to unavailability, however, but it was a tight opening to the encounter – Stourbridge eventually grabbing the opener mid-way through the first 45, firing it in from range with Tromans stranded away from her line.

The lead was doubled their lead with a good run down the right followed by a pin-point cross, which was headed in.

Into the second half, Stourbridge continued to attack and found the net another two times, but Harriers battled back and were rewarded with a goal from Harriers league debutant Danni Selmes.

The match ended in a 4-1 defeat, and next up for the Ladies is a visit of Rugby Town Women to Lea Castle on Sunday 29th September, a 2pm kick off.
