HARRIERS picked up a point from a lively encounter against Gateshead at Aggborough.
Ryan Johnson’s first goal of the season gave Harriers the lead early on before the Heed levelled.
Both sides had chances to snatch a winner with the Reds going closest through Ashley Chambers and Brandon Diau.
Harriers did begin well and took an 11th minute lead; Hemmings with a corner delivery that Johnson powered home with a header.
Seven minutes later, it was 1-1 as Harriers failed to deal with a good run and low cross from Olley; his delivery eventually tucked beyond Mannion by Preston.
Hemmings, later in the half, forced goalkeeper James into a routine save before Chambers crashed wide on the angle, Harriers ramping up the chances before the break.
Just prior, Gateshead did almost go close to going ahead when Mannion parried Olley’s shot, Kayode glancing a header over just 11 minutes past the restart when perhaps placed to do better.
Harriers very nearly made them pay for that, Richard Peniket’s diving header held by James before Chambers fired a shot straight at the custodian when put through on goal.
Though Gateshead had late openings themselves – missing the target through Preston and Lees, it was Harriers who surged with a late finish, influential sub Diau and Hemmings both seeing shots blocked as Aggborough finally began to find its voice again.
