Recap: Bewdley 0-1 Harriers

The report of Harriers’ Worcestershire Senior Cup Quarter-Final…

A young Harriers side advanced to the Semi-Final of the Worcestershire Senior Cup on Tuesday night with a 1-0 victory over Bewdley Town.

The match at Ribbesford Meadows had originally been scheduled to take place in November, but five postponements – due to an unplayable pitch – saw the eventual tie take place in early February.

First teamers Tom Palmer and Ethan Freemantle were among the squad that was made up of players from Harriers’ U23s and U19s teams.

The first chance of the game came after three minutes for the home side as Luke Morris’ shot was hooked away from the line brilliantly by David Neligwa.

Palmer was called into action numerous times in the first half, which saw Bewdley have the majority of the chances,  but it was Harriers who would take the lead with their first effort of the game as Ethan Freemantle stabbed home as the ball ran loose inside the area.

In the second half, Harriers created more chances – Reiss Taylor-Randle and Harvey Cartwright among those to have efforts go narrowly wide – but neither side could add to the scoreline.

“…We were a team of men today and we stood up to the battle well…” Harry Stratford

Following the game, midfielder Harry Stratford gave his thoughts on a good experience for the young Harriers side.

“It was a good performance to get to the Semi Final, we ground it out a bit at the end but it was a good performance from everyone and we did what we needed to do,” said Stratford.

“Ethan [Freemantle] got the goal and lead the line really well today, we were clinical as we only had a few chances.

“We defended really well, but they didn’t really create much either.

“I always love a tackle, and I think all the boys stood up to [the physicality] today, we were a team of men today and we stood up to the battle well.

“The first team management were watching so it was a chance to impress, and I thought a lot of the boys did well”.

Harriers will now face Alvechurch in the Semi-Final, full details for the fixture will be announced in due course.
