Saturday: Gateshead v Harriers

A look ahead to Saturday’s trip to Gateshead…

HARRIERS will be braced to weather another storm on Saturday when they travel to Gateshead.

The Reds took on and defeated not only Farsley Celtic, but the perils of Storm Ciara on Tuesday night, riding out tough conditions to record a vital 1-0 victory.

Now, with Storm Dennis ready to batter much of the UK throughout Saturday and beyond, conditions are expected to be equally challenging at the International Stadium.

It makes a difficult afternoon even harder, with the Heed already a tough nut to crack as one of the division’s in-form sides, winning four of their last five games and having not been beaten since Boxing Day.

Factoring all that in, then, it’s little wonder that boss Russ Penn, a former Gateshead player, is ready for battle.

He said: “I’m used to it; it’s what football is all about!

“I’ve done it all of my career playing-wise, and it’s not a problem. As I said on Tuesday, we prepare right, we travel right and everything is put in place to get us the three points we want.

“We beat Ciara on Tuesday and it’s all about beating Dennis now on Saturday!

“Nothing surprises you in this game and I had 18 months at Gateshead; it’s really open up there… the wind does get in.

“Whatever comes our way, we’ll prepare for it.”

Declan Weeks is likely to remain Harriers only definite absentee on Saturday, while Ryan Johnson will be assessed prior to the clash having missed out on Tuesday.

Kick-off at Gateshead is at 3:00pm
