“We knew the time was right…”

O’Connor on a less-than-quiet start to life in a new role at Aggborough

Harriers Assistant Manager Jimmy O'Connor

JIMMY O’CONNOR says he’s loved the manic start to life in his new role as part of the club’s Management team.

O’Connor was handed the permanent position as Assistant Manager to boss Russ Penn earlier in the summer.

Since then, the two have been charged with trying to assemble a squad in readiness for the start of the new National League season – whenever that may be.

The situation the entire world has found itself in during 2020 has meant that football has joined everything else in being thrown into chaos.

Despite that, the 35-year-old told our YouTube channel he’s fully embraced the challenge.

“I have absolutely loved it,” he said.

“It’s been a massive learning curve, really since coming to the club.

“I had every intention of playing out three years and getting promotions, living the dream and being back in the EFL as a player!

“However, things change – you adapt and you learn from them, which I’ve done and I know Russ has done the same.

“We’ve built up a good relationship in that time as well.

“I think we just knew the time was right to have this opportunity and take it – I’ve loved every minute of it.

“It has been challenging, but what a great time to come in and learn things; to have those challenges thrown at you and come through them.”
