Recap from Aggborough as Harriers fall to defeat against Chester…

A SPIRITED second half wasn’t enough to help Harriers who fell to a 2-1 defeat to Chester in a game that saw both teams finish with ten men.

Ashley Hemmings had pulled the Reds level in the first half after the visitors had taken the lead, only for the Blues to net a second half winner courtesy of Declan Weeks.

Harriers also had Amari Morgan-Smith sent off in an eventful game, with Paddy Lacey given his marching orders for the visitors.

It was the visitors who netted first with 22 minutes on the clock. Having already fired a warning shot across the bow when Grand rose well to nod over the bar, they notched through Danny Elliott’s well-taken finish from inside the area.

Chester’s lead was relatively short lived, however, as Harriers responded inside six minutes, a teasing, threatening delivery from Sterling tucked away powerfully by Hemmings.

Following Morgan-Smith’s sending off, Johnston may well have had Chester back in front on the stroke of half time as he shot wide, Glendon doing similar just after the restart, though he forced Simpson into a low save.

That lead was re-established on 56, Declan Weeks confidently firing into the roof of the net from an acute angle against his former club, before Lacey’s heavy challenge on Sterling seven minutes later saw the Blues’ compliment reduced to ten.

From there, Harriers pushed for another equaliser and certainly finished the brighter of the two teams -sub Jaiden White saw a ball lifted over the target before an incredible passage of play summed up the night for the reds, three minutes from time.

Showing quick feet in the area, White fired a low effort that clipped the base of the post. Freemantle was on hand to turn the ball back towards goal, only for Livesey to get back and block just in the nick of time. Even then the danger wasn’t gone — Prosser managed to nudge the loose ball to Richards, who hit a first time shot agonisingly wide.
