Russ Penn looks ahead to the Boxing Day clash with Hereford…

RUSS PENN says he “can’t wait to get going” as Harriers gear up for the first of the Christmas fixtures at Hereford on Boxing Day.

It’s one of the busiest times of the National League North calendar as the Reds meet the Bulls twice in quick succession – with a clash against AFC Telford United in between for Penn’s charges.

The short journey to Edgar Street on Boxing Day pits Harriers against a Bulls side finding some form in the League and FA Trophy.

Managed by former Harriers duo Josh Gowling and his assistant Steve Burr, the squad is packed with players who’ve also turned out at Aggborough in the past.

Their last League outing saw them knock off title-chasing AFC Fylde before consecutive victories in the Trophy saw them edge into the last 32.

Penn knows it makes them tough opposition and is relishing the chance to take a team to one of the biggest clubs in the division.

He said: “They haven’t played as many games as most teams and have only lost three games all season – they’ll be right up there towards the end.

“They have a good blend of players with experience and youth and an enthusiastic manager, so I’m expecting a tasty encounter.

“They’re a League club for me – but there are plenty of them in our level now which is sad to see.

“We’ll go there and they’ll have plenty of fans and support backing them; and I remember days of League 1 and 2 under Graham Turner – those memories are still new [for me] and they want to get back there as quickly as they can.

“It’s a great game to look forward to.”

Penn will run the rule over his only injury concern in Jim Kellermann prior to the clash, while Tom Palmer is back in the swing of training after time out through illness.

With the Hereford and Telford games swiftly followed by meetings against the likes of York and Gloucester in the New Year, it’s all hands to the pump for Harriers.

“It’s what we love over the Christmas period, admitted the boss. “Plenty of games, and that extra spice of crowds as well.

“It’s going to be a bit surreal over the next couple of weeks, but I can’t wait to get going.”

Kick-off on Boxing Day is at 3:00pm.

Harriers fans are unable to attend the match in person but will be able to view it through Hereford’s live stream package.

Tickets for streaming can be purchased now.
