O’Connor: Keziah getting ‘better and better’

JIMMY O’CONNOR has spoken of the improvements he’s seen in Keziah Martin’s game as the youngster prepares to make up for lost time with Harriers this season.

The 21-year-old joined Harriers prior to last season after a successful trial where he’d more than caught the eye.

Having previously played for Barnsley and Solihull, Martin came to Worcestershire in search of the regular first-team football that would help further his fledgling professional career.

While always impressing when given the chance, he found his chances in 2020/21 limited – not least thanks to the Coronavirus-impacted curtailment of the whole campaign.

Speaking to our YouTube channel, Aggborough assistant boss O’Connor suggested this had harmed his progress perhaps more than most – and that supporters are now finally able to see more of what he’s capable of.

Martin netted the first goal in our 2-1 friendly win over Halesowen last weekend and has looked bright throughout pre-season, with O’Connor saying: “He deserved that for his performance [on Saturday] and in general over the last few months before we stopped.

“…he’s technically good and he’s got a good head on his shoulders.” Jimmy O’Connor on Keziah Martin

“In training and in games, he has been getting better and better.

“I think he was one of the players that was hurt by the season getting curtailed because I think he would have had a chance to impress last year.

“You could see [at Halesowen], that’s what he’s about. He’s snappy, he’s technically good and he’s got a good head on his shoulders.

“He has had a good 12 months learning the ropes off some experienced players, learning about the level and, I think, learning what he’s got to do to have a successful career in that position on the pitch.”
