Harriers Women have continued their preparations for the new season with the acquisition of some new faces – some not so new!
Hattie James is back with the Reds for the new campaign after a successful loan spell from West Bromwich Albion last term. She’s re-joined Harriers on a permanent basis.
A warm welcome back also goes to Kathrine Christopher, who is looking to get back into the thick of things having missed last season through injury.
New to the squad for 2021/22 is teenager Sophie Hugo who has signed with us on a dual registration with the Baggies having already enjoyed training sessions here.
Former Wolves and Albion wide player Charlie Whitehouse has also linked up with the club as they look to make amends for a League season that never really got started last time around.
Meanwhile, Harriers lost out in their first pre-season friendly recently, going down 3-0 to Abergavenny, who last season finished fourth in the top tier of Welsh football.
The match was played over three, thirty-minute ‘halves’, with the visitors taking the opportunity to explore new formations and systems despite missing several faces through injury and absence.
After bright start, the team fell behind after 25 minutes before again more than matching their opponent, with efforts cleared off the line and hitting the woodwork.
As the afternoon wore on, a relative lack of numbers caught up with Harriers as Abergavenny netted twice more, but there were plenty of positives to take from the afternoon – not least Christopher’s return from a such a lengthy lay-off and the tireless Chloe Whyley.
