“They realise what he does day to day, and it sets their standards.”

JIMMY O’Conor says Harriers young guns will continue to learn from the likes of Mark Carrington following the midfielder’s arrival at Aggborough.

The former Wrexham man signed for the Reds in the summer after leaving the Racecourse Ground after an eight-year stint.

The 34-year-old has wasted no time in showing the rest of the squad here exactly what the management team know all too well – and the reasons why they brought him here.

Just as with the likes of skipper Lewis Montrose and influential defender Keith Lowe, Carrington’s experience and professionalism stands him apart from most, with O’Connor saying he helps set the tone.

That can only aid the members of the Harriers squad who are, comparatively, just starting out on their footballing journeys.

“He’s the same as all the other players we bring to the club – they’re good people as well,” explained the Aggborough assistant boss.

“They realise what he does day to day, and it sets their standards.” Jimmy O’Connor

“That is the first thing I’ll say about Carra. He’s a fantastic professional around the group, doing the right things, day in, day out.

“It’s fantastic for all the players to learn from, in particular the younger players; your Keziah Martins, your Kai Lissimores, the midfielders playing alongside him.

“They realise what he does day to day, and it sets their standards.

“It’s up to them to match those and, hopefully, better them as well and keep pushing each other.”

Catch Harriers in action at Aggborough next on Bank Holiday Monday 30 August with the visit of Chester. Tickets are on sale now.
