RUSS Penn has hailed Harriers favourite Ashley Hemmings for his high standards during his two years at Aggborough so far.

The popular performer marked two years as a Harrier this week, a period in which the player, the club and indeed everyone else has been through an incredible amount.

Despite two curtailed seasons within that time, he’s still managed to rack up 50 appearances in a red shirt and is never found wanting when it comes to desire and commitment for the cause.

In a dressing room full of high standards, the former Wolves youngster is one player who helps set the bar.

How he goes about his business should stand him good stead for plenty more years in the game yet.

“He has been great and mirrors everything that me and Jimmy do at the football club,” Penn said of the Harriers number ten.

“He is hard working, has quality and is a fans’ favourite – he deserves to be because he’s put the work in.

“I had a chat with him this morning and praised him for his 50 games, although it should have been 80 games with the pandemic.

“I’ve said that we look forward to the next two years as he epitomises what we’re trying to do at the football club.

“Even though he’s a 30-year-old lad, his standards are very high – he drives himself and there’s no reason why he can’t play for the next four or five years.”

Catch Harriers in action this weekend against Bradford (Park Avenue), kick off 3:00pm at Aggborough. Tickets are on sale online now.
