AHEAD of Saturday’s FA Trophy trip to Boston, Russ Penn wants Harriers to get back to their high performance levels after an off night in midweek.

The Reds were decidedly off-colour on Tuesday night as they needed a 92nd-minute equaliser to grab a point at Curzon Ashton.

Having been just seconds away from the end of a promising unbeaten run, the gaffer has sounded a warning to his charges ahead of the trip to Lincolnshire.

Accepting it came against a backdrop of a fairly decent last couple of months, Penn reiterated that Tuesday wasn’t quite right – and wants more from his team.

Reflecting, he told our YouTube channel: “We look organised, we look disciplined and we’re playing with confidence and scoring goals.

“We’ve got everything to be successful, but what we haven’t got and we won’t know until the end of the season is consistency.

“We’ve been consistent in the last couple of months and we’ve got to build on that now.

“You’re only as good as your last game and we were off it on Tuesday, so we’ve got to get back to the levels we know we can do.”

Penn was, as ever, level headed when looking at the bigger picture.

Despite pleasing results in the FA Cup, Trophy and National League North lately, he knows there are many more ups and downs to come.

He added: “It isn’t always going to go our way, far from it, because we’ve done nothing yet and achieved nothing.

“But we’re ticking over nicely at the moment [and] long may it continue.”

Saturday’s FA Trophy Third Round game is the second trip to the Jakemans Stadium in a week for Harriers.

They tasted victory last time around by virtue of a narrow 2-1 win, with the Pilgrims able to enjoy a ‘free’ week in the build-up to this return fixture.

Penn confirmed that Joe Foulkes will be part of the squad travelling on Saturday, while Kai Lissimore is temporarily out of the picture having joined Tamworth on loan – getting 30 minutes off the bench on his debut on Tuesday.

Tickets for Saturday’s game, which must be settled on the day, can be purchased in advance online.

Kick-off at Boston is at 3:00pm.
