ETHAN Freemantle’s winner helped earn Harriers a 2-1 win over Farsley Celtic at Aggborough.

The striker netted a superb goal in the second half to wrap up an excellent three points for the Reds, who followed up their FA Cup win over Reading in the most ideal of ways.

It may have been a less glamourous occasion but it was by no means a less important one – evidenced by the fact that an impressive 1,800 fans turned out on a cold Tuesday night at Aggborough with what was one of the largest midweek home attendances for several years.

The home side did it the hard way, too, by coming from behind. Although Harriers had started brightly and gone close through Hemmings and Sterling, it was the visitors who broke the deadlock on five minutes; Greaves smashing home from close range after picking up the ball in the area.

It was then a fairly scrappy affair that Harriers more or less had control of – drawing level on the stroke of half time after a delivery in the area fell to Mark Carrington who managed to dig out a finish with quick reactions to level the score.

The second half wasn’t too old by the time Harriers put themselves in front, either. Freemantle turned sharply in the area and left three blue shirts in his wake before calmly rolling the ball beyond the goalkeeper.

From there, while Harriers never looked like blowing Farsley out the water and like they’d win by half a dozen, the result also never seemed in doubt – Joe Foulkes going close to making it 3-1 with a shot that clipped the bar.

Five minutes from the end, Celtic were reduced to ten men after Allan’s cynical pull-back on Hemmings.
