HARRIERS ended the ‘regular’ home season with a comfortable 1-0 victory over Darlington.

Keziah Martin grabbed the only goal of the game with a deflected effort in the second half.

The home side were in control of the contest from the first minute until the last, warming-up for the play-offs in ideal style with a good workout in the heat at Aggborough.

Geraldo Bajrami almost had the team in front after just seven minutes as he stooped to meet an Ashley Hemmings corner, heading wide. Hemmings himself did brilliantly six minutes later, holding off his man before firing narrowly over.

The chances kept coming – Hemmings wiping out a Darlington player with a vicious shot on 18 minutes before Bajrami again tried his luck, shooting just high of the target.

Three shy of the break, Martin set up Austin who showed good composure before arcing an effort just shy of the angle of bar and post, Carrington then heading into the grateful gloves of the Quakers stopper.

Harriers had their breakthrough eight minutes into the second period. Good advantage given by the referee allowed Freemantle to barge forward, the striker feeding Hemmings who hooked the ball to Bajrami. The defender miss-hit his initial shot but reacted quickly enough to pull back to Martin – he drove at goal, clipping the post before the ball hit the net off the back of the goalkeeper.

Carrington’s neatly curled shot was held by goalkeeper Taylor at the hour, before Nathan Lowe struck over with a free kick for the visitors, quickly following up with a further effort that Luke Simpson held well.

Freemantle and Sterling then had half chances to increase Harriers’ lead, before Nathan Lowe again went close with another free-kick that Simpson this time appeared to tip over despite the award of a goal kick.
