HARRIERS rounded off pre-season with a comfortable 4-1 win at Halesowen Town on Saturday.

The Reds dominated the first half, the ball especially – with ten minites gone, Ashley Hemmings struck off target with an effort as the visitors prowled, Nathan Lowe’s free kick then clipping off the foot of the post.

On 14 minutes Harirers had the lead – a corner delivery nodded home beautifully by Nat Knight-Percival. Tom Owen-Evans might’ve made it two on the half hour, but his low shot was saved well.

Just before the break, Hemmings fired over again on the angle, but it took just a minute after the interval for the lead to be extended – Nathan Lowe’s outrageous distance effort cannoning in off the bar.

Halesowen’s first real sight of goal brought with  it a header over the target by Nathan Hayward on 54, before Yusifu Ceesay nodded off target at the other end.

With 65 on the clock Hemmings advanced again and struck wide of the post with a powerful effort, before Palmer had to be alert to an effort across his own bow after the visitors lost control of the ball.

Halesowen did reduce the arrears on 74 minutes. Again the ball was left loose from Harriers and Palmer was somewhat exposed as Richard Gregory chipped a finish over him from distance.

Five minutes later, good control and a mazy run from Kai Lissimore put him in front of goal, but his eventual shot was well held.

Harriers soon had that two-goal advantage restored when, with ten left, excellent alertness from sub Gabby Rogers saw him rob his man of the ball before rolling it to Zak Brown who tidied it into the net.

It was at times a frantic affair after both sides made the customary friendly match changes, but in the absence of a single malicious tackle, a bizarre flurry of yellow cards seemed to unnecessarily sour the mood as things drew to a close.

Nevertheless, Harriers finished strongly, and Rogers showed quick feet with a couple of minutes left before stinging the palms of the goalkeeper. The fourth  goal arrived with seconds left after Tolley stole a pass intended for the Yeltz goalkeeper, rounding him to score.

Harriers start off the brand new season in just a week’s time with the trek to Blyth Spartans. Spaces are still available on the club’s official travel coaches – book up now.
