HARRIERS got themselves back to winning ways with an important victory and clean sheet in a 1-0 success over Chorley.
A committed and determined performance throughout was enough to secure the success, sealed by Caleb Richards’ second goal of the season.
It was Chorley, however, who had the first chance of the night with just two minutes gone when the ball fell to Whitehouse on the edge of the area – he chested it down and fired towards the top corner, Tom Palmer on hand to make a good save.
Palmer’s opposite number, Matt Urwin, was just as equal to an Ashley Hemmings effort from distance on 20 minutes as a free kick from 20 yards looked goalbound but for his two-handed parry.
Five minutes later, though, Harriers were ahead. They’d gone within inches of netting seconds before they did when Hemmings rounded Urwin before sending the ball into the post and himself into the advertising hoardings. Hemmings hadn’t even shaken off the heavy blow from the collision by the time the ball was in the net, Morgan-Smith playing in Richards who drove a finish acosss Urwin and into the far corner.
On the half-hour it was almost two; a near-post corner finding Freemantle who directed a header well, but with just too much height as it flew over the bar.
Chorley, never out of the game, almost drew level just two minutes later as Hall was free at the far post, only for his finish to be deflected wide while many in red were appealing for an offside.
Two before the break, Gabby Rogers fired into the side netting before Shane Byrne’s deflected effort flew up and into the hands of Urwin.
Freemantle, tireless and relentless up front, struck over with a 20-yard effort on the hour, before Chorley again went close through Hall as his header from inside the six-yard box hit the underside of the bar.
It was far from a second half packed full of chances, yet both sides had opportunities to net. The Magpies through, a marauding Ustabasi fired across the target and wide at one end, before Yusifu Ceesay’s pace on the break saw him combine with Jack Bearne, the latter forcing Urwin to parry into the path of the latter who struck wide with the follow-up.
Harriers held on with enough comfort to make it a thoroughly deserved win and three important points.
